First off. This isn’t a game as much as a movie in which you control the outcome. It may sound crazy but it’s really a genius idea. The way it works is as button prompts on the screen. I know it sounds crazy and lame but it really works for this game. At any moment during the game it can have you focused on the dialogue and story, then pop into a fight or you deciding if you want to pull the trigger on someone else. These prompts all work well in how you would do the exact action. That isn’t why you should play this game though.
The story in the game is to catch the Origami killer who kidnaps 10 year old boys and puts them into a sewer to drown in rain water. After the rain reaches 6.000 inches, the boy will drown. The killer gives the Father of the child trails to save his son (sort of like the Saw Movies). These tests are very brutal, ultimately putting the father to the test to save their son. I don’t want to give away any of the story so I will stop there and just explain the characters a bit.
There are four characters and the story intertwines perfectly. Three males and one female are included, One male is the father of the kidnapped kid Shaun, One FBI Agent, One Private Eye and the female is a journalist. In this sense of the story, the game plays out like the movie Crash. Everyone’s story eventually joins together.
I’ll say the games story isn’t like a grade A movie but it is a game. So the story shouldn’t carry as much weight but the game breaks barriers with its adult content. I don’t mean that in a perverted way by any means. Yes, there is sexy involved and gore from the various tests. Why shouldn’t there be though? It is a Mature rated game and sex is featured on television and movies all the time. In this way it’s done in a much more “mature” way. There is no sex, just because there can be. No, it’s because it should be. This is a serious game, your decisions matter for everything you do here; that goes for the sexual aspect as well. You can deny kissing the other person if you want to. It’s all up to you and the game doesn’t go overboard nor is it light on the subject. So, when I say it should be played by everyone, I really mean people who are mature enough to handle a game that’ll challenge you in a non-traditional way. As innovative as it is, I still see some people not playing this game. Even if you rent it though, You defineltely shouldn’t miss out on a concept that a lot of games should learn from. 9/10
